I’m hanging out solo tonight with a sleeping kiddo in our hotel room, while Jasper hangs with his 94-year-old grandma. I’m having a rockin’ internet new year’s eve, so I thought I’d post here some resolutions for 2009. I usually resolve many things so that if one or two come true, I feel satisfied, but I don’t think I have a great list this year. Here’s the best I can do:
1. Spend more time alone with Jasper.
2. Be more diligent about Mavis’ dental care.
3. Work really hard to make January and February, which I normally find very depressing, interesting months.
4. Take a real vacation at some point, one that doesn’t involve visiting family (she writes, as she is on “vacation” visiting family…)
Any for you guys?
I’ve been thinking about this a lot, but I am glad I did not post right away since I was not at a good New Year’s place in my marriage at the moment. Here are mine:
1. Total cliché, but working on being more healthy is a big one for me. I’ve let things go this year, and while I haven’t gained a huge amount of weight, everything is softer and jigglier, and I don’t have the energy I need to get things done. My resolutions are pretty minimal — less fast food (which has become way too frequent since I run errands over lunch at work), more activity/exercise, and less snacking on junk after dinner.
2. Again, cliché, but organization is also a goal for the new year. Less junk accumulation, fewer junk drawers/shelves in our house, and purging of things that haven’t been touched in years. My husband is an accumulator and an extreme procrastinator, and both tendencies have tested our marriage over the years (and at points, over the holidays). Since I apparently cannot change him (ahem, see comment above), I am going to work on my own shortcomings in this area. I had some success already over the weekend in cleaning out two junk drawers (found the lid to a teapot I’ve been searching for forever, but alas, I think I finally got rid of the teapot!), and putting aside Christmas decorations that haven’t made it out of the storage box in years (to donate prior to the holidays next year).
3. A simple, yet important one for me — bring fewer bags into our house. We have a million of those reusable bags, but I am terrible at remembering to bring them along, and then, bring them into the store. This weekend, we emerged from a Target run without any new baggage, and my trip to the mall to do returns was equally successful.
4. Get out of the house earlier in the morning. I’ve been rolling into work at 9 far too many days, which is not a good habit, or a good image to project. This requires getting Elsie into bed earlier, and up earlier, which are no simple feats. We’ll see how this goes — no success today.
Coco, any thoughts on vacationing in the Twin Cities? I’ve got to take Mavis to the bookstore with the little purple door — not only do they have cats to chase, but they have a little chicken running around!
1. Lose weight. Totally boring but necessary right now
2. Teach my kid to brush his teeth – he thinks it is a fun thing we do once in a while.
3. Date once in a while. I am a single mom, would prefer to not be, but dating is really hard to do and easy to avoid. I need to start trying (or just shut up about it already!).
that is all for me!
